Annual Meeting & Spring League Thanks

 

Thanks to everyone who attended the 2009 DiscNW Annual Meeting on Sunday,
May 31 at Magnuson Park. 

 

The silent auction that benefited youth ultimate in
<http://www.discnw.org/about/youthDevelopmentFund.html>  Seattle was a
success. $807 was raised for the cause. Thanks to everyone who donated items
or services. And thanks to all the bidders. Winning bidders have been
notified via email. 

 

Congratulations to D'oh! who won the A division finals on Sunday afternoon!!
Thanks, D'oh for your generous offer to donate your prize discs to Franklin
HS! 

 

And congrats to the following teams who won the Spirit of the Game award for
their respective division: 

*	A: Guard, Seize Them! 
*	B: Blue Footed Boobies 
*	C: Tie: Fish is Meat, Tsunami 
*	D: Badger 
*	E: Flaming SquiDs 

 

And finally, congrats to Rainmakers, Toolbox, Rubix, Pan-Galactic Groove
Squad, and Quality Frisbee Club for winning their respective divisions!! 

 

 

UPA Level II Clinic

 

The Advanced Strategy and Tactics <http://www.upa.org/coaches/coaching2>
UPA Level II Coaching Certification Workshop will be held on July 11-12 at
Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, WA. The instructor is Sam O'Brien,
formerly of Carleton CUT, Sub-Zero, and our very own Seattle Sockeye!

 

This clinic includes two full days of instruction and is ideal for high
school, college, and club captains and coaches that are looking for new
tools to help take their leadership to the next level. The program
incorporates concepts developed by top high school, college, and club
coaches with a record for performing at the top of the game while
maintaining Spirit of the Game and training future leaders of the sport.

 

If you are a female coach or if you coach female players (either co-ed or
single-gender), you may be eligible for a rebate of half the registration

Women and Men for All Seasons

 

There will be two, one-day hat tournaments in July at SERA
<http://www.discnw.org/ale/field.html?fieldAreaId=696>  in Tacoma.  The
format used will depend on registration.  We do promise at least 4  games
for all teams.  Start time to be determined, but likely games will be from
9:00 am until 4:00pm.  There will be lined fields!

 

Saturday, July 18 is the date for Men for All Seasons
<http://www.discnw.org/events/MenForAllSeasons.html> , which, as the name
suggests is a tournament for guys.  

Women for All <http://www.discnw.org/events/WomenForAllSeasons.html>
Seasons will take place on Sunday, July 19 and is for ladies.

 

Registration for both events is now open!

 

 

Field Day Tournament

 

DiscNW is excited to partner with Pyramid Breweries
<http://www.pyramidbrew.com/>  to host the first annul
<http://www.discnw.org/events/FieldDay.html> Field Day one-day hat
tournament to take place at the Starfire Sports Complex
<http://www.starfiresports.com/>  on Saturday, September 12, 2009.

 

*	This is a one-day hat tournament for 16 teams
*	Registration will open in July
*	4:3 gender ratio (men:women) for all games
*	There will be a random hat draw at the fields
*	Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the DiscNW Long Term
Fields Fund which is used towards efforts promoting more and better
playfields in the Seattle area

 

There will be prizes!

*	1st Place: Team access to a suite for a Sounders game!
*	2nd Place: Sounders scarves
*	Spirit of the Game: Patagonia tech shirts

 

Online registration will open in July. 

 

 

Summer Youth Events

 

There are plenty of opportunities for youth ultimate players this summer.  

 

Washington Games

Players who were in grades 5-9 during the 2008-09 academic year are invited
to the very special July 18-19 Washington Games Disc Event--a festive
weekend of single-gender Ultimate, individual disc events, and spirit game
competitions!  For only $40, participants get two days full of Ultimate and
individual disc events, great coaching by local high school Youth Club
Championship players, a t-shirt, yummy field food, and a chance to bring
home a bronze, silver, or gold Washington Games medal.  Financial aid is
available.

Potlatch!

 

Even if you're not playing, come on out to 60 Acres Park

watch the 20th annual Potlatch <http://potlatch.discnw.org/>  tournament on
July 3-5.  There will be great people, good ultimate, and lots of
