Magnuson Park Trail Work Parties - Volunteers Needed
Saturday, February 2nd at 9-11am
Sunday, February 10th at 10am-noon
The Magnuson Park Athletic Fields/Wetlands project is soon to be a reality
and that means changes at the park especially access to the Sports Meadow.
Areas will be fenced off for construction, and next to the fields, the
parking lot and driveway are being removed forever to provide improved
upland habitat for wildlife. You will need to access the Sports Meadow via
the gravel trail from the parking lot to the west by the playground near the
Sand Point fields or via the paved trail from the parking lot to the east at
the end of the waterfront road.
DiscNW is teaming up with the Parks Department to improve the west access
trail to the Sports Meadow and we could use your help. We plan to conduct
volunteer work parties on Saturday, February 2nd at 9am and on Sunday,
February 10th at 10am. Work will include removal of invasive plants, Scot's
broom and blackberries, and perhaps spreading bark on the trail. Let us know
if you are interested by replying to fields.advocacy at discnw.org with your
name and phone (in case of last minute cancellation).
Wear your work clothes and bring gloves. Parks will provide the special
tools for yanking the plants out by the roots. DiscNW will provide some
snacks and water. Carpooling would be a good idea if you can swing it. The
work parties should last at least a couple of hours but you're free to help
out with whatever time you can spare. We'll meet near the parking lot at the
north end of the Sand Point fields. Spread the word.
DiscNW Board of Directors
DiscNW is actively recruiting new members for the board of directors. We are
especially interested in hearing from members of the club team and youth
communities, as well as persons with a background in law, fundraising or
non-profit development. However, the most important things are the Spirit,
energy and enthusiasm you bring to the Board.
For more information visit http://www.discnw.org/about/board.html or email
boardrecruit at discnw.org.
Slog in the Bog
Registration is still open for Slog in the Bog -
http://www.discnw.org/ale/clubevent.html?clubEventId=180
This popular team tournament will take place in Burlington, WA on Saturday,
March 8. Known for its fabulous spread of food and drink as well as
uncertain weather (Snow? Rain? Sleet? Sun?) the tournament is a chance for
your team to shake off the cobwebs and get ready for spring league.
