Follow DiscNW on Twitter

For game day updates, follow DiscNW at http://twitter.com/discnw

The main purpose of the twitter account is to augment the hotline and get
important announcements get to as many people as possible. Twitter use is
not intended to replace the DiscNW hotline. In fact, the hotline will
continue to be the definitive place to receive information. We will make
every attempt to tweet messages that are made on the hotline, but this may
not always be possible.

We will limit the number of messages intentionally to make sure we are only
communicating timely and important information to our "followers".

Join the Board of Directors

It's a new year and the DiscNW Board of Directors is accepting applications
for new members. We're looking for current or retired players, parents of
players or anyone interested in helping guide the development of the
organization.

In addition to the regular duties of strategic planning, overseeing the
annual budget and managing the DNW staff, board members have the opportunity
to identify new projects and programs to aid in development of Ultimate in
the northwest.

Board members also sit on or chair a number of standing committees including
the Youth Strategic Committee, Fundraising, Volunteers, Fields and others.

If you're interested, we encourage you to observe a monthly board meeting to
see what its all about. For questions, please visit the FAQ page
(http://www.discnw.org/admin/board/faq.html) or contact Mike DiGioia at
mike.digioia at discnw.org.

Spring Adult Events

Spring Team League - http://www.discnw.org/events/Spring.html

Spring team league provides a venue for coed teams at all levels to play in
a competitive league. The league is divided into pools based on ability, so

March 14. Registration is now open!

Verns Hat League - http://www.discnw.org/events/Verns.html

Verns League is a teaching league for beginners and intermediate-level

and interest in chasing plastic. It's a great way to learn ultimate, improve
your skills, and meet new people. Games start in early April. Registration
is now open.

Slog in the Bog - http://discnw.org/events/SlogInTheBog.html

Known for its fabulous spread of food and drink as well as uncertain weather
(Snow? Rain? Sleet? Sun?) the tournament is a chance for your team to shake
off the cobwebs and get ready for spring league. This year's Slog is
scheduled for Saturday, March 13. Registration is now open.

UW Element Clothing Drive

The University of Washington Women's Ultimate team, Element, is organizing a
service project this year to start Ultimate programs in low income
communities and schools. They are working with kids in grades 3-5. Their
goal is to not only provide a safe, positive environment for the kids, but
also to teach life skills through Ultimate, such as problem solving,
conflict resolution, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Because these are low income families, many of them will not have proper
footwear or clothing for sports. If you have any old sportswear in decent
condition that you would like to donate to the cause, Element would greatly
appreciate it. Here is a list of items they are looking for:

*	Cleats
*	Running Shoes
*	Athletic shirts or T-shirts
*	Athletic shorts
*	Sweatpants or warm-ups (no holes in the knees please!)
*	Miscellaneous athletic clothes

Items can be dropped at 3910 Latona Ave NE. A bin will be placed in the mail
room, up the stairs at the front of the building. For questions, contact
captain Shannon O'Malley at ultimatesmurf87 at gmail.com. Thanks for donating!

Women's Club Tryouts for Seattle Riot

Because Riot will be attending the World Ultimate Club Championships in
Prague this July, our tryout process is happening earlier than usual and
will have a slightly different structure than in the past.

This process will begin with an Open Tryout on Sunday March 14th, so mark
your calendar! The open tryout will consist of a number of scrimmages and
evaluation drills and is open to women of any age interested in playing high
level club ultimate this season. Please note that players currently in high
school are only eligible to tryout as practice players for the team.

Further details on times, location, and registration will be posted on the
team website http://www.seattleriot.org in the coming weeks. For now, if
you're interested in trying out for Riot 2010, send an email to
captains at seattleriot.org to get your name on the contact list for more
information.

UPA Observer Clinic

Are you or anyone you know interested in becoming a certified UPA observer?
A training and certification clinic will be held in conjunction with the PLQ
BBQ tournament on March 13-14, 2010 in Tacoma. Participants must register
beforehand and clinic space is limited. The clinic will take all of Saturday
and most of Sunday, so participants cannot play in the tournament. Contact
jonotc at shumi.org if you are interested.

Thanks,

William Bartram
