Hello, Youth Ultimate Enthusiasts!

The spring and summer are the busiest times for youth Ultimate.  As such, I
have a long list of youth Ultimate news for you today:

1. Open coaching positions

1. OPEN COACHING POSITIONS

As per the norm in the spring, there are many youth teams looking for
coaches for the upcoming spring league.  Openings at this time include
Seattle Girls/Lake Washington Girls' School, Edmonds Woodway High School,
SCDS Middle School, TOPS Middle School, and Eckstein Middle School.  Some
are paid positions, others are volunteer.  Read details at our Youth

2. LAYOUT FOR HAITI ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT FEBRUARY 15

Youth players - come play in a hat tournament to raise money to send to Red
Cross relief efforts in Haiti. There's no minimum donation but give
wholeheartedly!  The tournament is open to all youth players and is at
Franklin High School turf fields (Rainier and MLK) on Monday, February 15,
11-4:00.  See attached flyer.


3. UPA LEVEL I COACHING CERTIFICATION COURSE

Seattle's UPA Level I Coaching Ethics and Performance workshop will take
place on Sunday, February 28 and will be taught by Seattle's very own
Miranda Roth.  Here is the link to register for the workshop:

4. MOHO/MINI MOHO

MoHo and Mini MoHo are a series of free practices (including drills and
scrimmage) for youth players, led by some of the best Ultimate coaches
around. MoHo and Mini MoHo will occur on Saturdays through February at
Miller Playfield.  Here are the links to register:

5. SPRING REIGN REGISTRATION DEADLINE

The registration deadline for Spring Reign is fast approaching.  There are
divisions for elementary, middle, and high school teams.  It is a mixed
division tournament and will take place on April 24-25 in Burlington, WA.

6. UPA WESTERN HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP BID DEADLINE

The deadline to apply for a bid for the UPA Western High School Championship
is Friday, March 19.  Teams who participated in the 2009 UPA Washington
State Championship are eligible to apply.  The tournament is May 8-9 in

7. NEW MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENTS IN MAY

There are two new tournaments in the Puget Sound region this spring!

The first is "Spring Jam."  Spring Jam is a brand new tournament targeting
novice and intermediate boys' school-based teams.  If you're new to the
single-gender scene, this is the tournament for you.  Spring Jam will take
place on the weekend of May 15-16 at the Skagit River Park in Burlington,
WA.  Please note that this tournament does conflict with UPA Washington
State Championships.  More information will be posted on the event webpage
as it becomes available (

will open in March.

The second is the "Green Games."  The Green Games tournament will include
three divisions: A) middle school girls, B) middle school boys, and C) high
school coed--novice/intermediate teams.  The Green Games will take place at
Vassault Park in Tacoma on May 23.  More information will be posted on the

8. SEATTLE ULTIMATE CAMPS DATES + NEW TACOMA CAMP

The Seattle Ultimate Camps this summer will take place at Magnuson Park on
June 28-July 2 and August 16-20.  There are camps for players ages 10-18.

This year, DiscNW is partnering with Metro Parks Tacoma to provide a youth
Ultimate camp in Tacoma at Vassault Playfield, June 21-25.

Registration will open for all camps in March at www.discnw.org.

apply.


9. NEXT LEVEL ULTIMATE CAMP

Cultimate and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Men’s Ultimate Club
(Wisconsin Hodags) are partnering to present two overnight camps this
summer.  The first is in Madison, WI, July 17-22.  The second is in
Portland, OR, July 31-August 5.  The camps are for boys ages 14-18. 6-day
overnight or day-camp. Discounts given to schools who send more 4 or more

10. UPA OBSERVER CLINIC MARCH 13-14

Are you or anyone you know interested in becoming a certified UPA observer?
A training and certification clinic will be held in conjunction with the PLQ
BBQ tournament on March 13-14, 2010 in Tacoma. Participants must register
beforehand, and clinic space is limited. The clinic will take all of
Saturday and most of Sunday, so participants cannot play in the tournament.

11. CLUB TEAM TRYOUTS

Seattle club teams Riot (women), Downpour (open), Sockeye (open), and Voodoo
(open) are starting their tryout processes in March.  Youth players are
permitted to try out, though some teams have restrictions about whether or
not they may travel with the team (see their websites for more
information).
