Hi, Youth Ultimate Enthusiasts!

Six pieces of youth news for you today:

1. Registration Closes Monday for Level I USA Ultimate Coaching Clinic

1. Registration Closes Monday for Level I USA Ultimate Coaching Clinic

The USA Ultimate Level I Coach Certification: Coaching Ethics and
Performance will be taught by Miranda Roth and will take place in Seattle on
January 16. In the morning, this class will use the USA Ultimate Code of
Ethics and Spirit of Coaching documents as starting points to gain a deeper
understanding regarding issues of liability and insurance, fairness,
teaching self officiating and professionalizing the role of coaches in
Ultimate. The afternoon is dedicated to modeling quality instructional
methods in teaching basic skills and running a practice. The class is $75,
plus USA Ultimate membership (or $45 for just the morning Ethics session).

2.  Registration Now Open for Seattle Youth Spring Leagues

DiscNW hosts leagues for players from elementary school through high school
in the spring.

Elementary School Coed Spring League: March 19 - May 21. Saturdays.
Registration closes 2/13. Sign up at

Middle School Coed Spring League: March 19 - May 21. Saturdays. Registration
closes 1/21 for earlybird teams and 2/13 for regular registrants. Sign up at

High School Coed Spring League: March 19 - May 21. Saturdays. Registration

High School Single-Gender Spring League: March 5 - May 14. Weekday
afternoon/evenings in the Seattle area. Registration closes 1/21 for varsity
and 3/3 for JV.  Sign up at

3. Registration Opens In January for Other Winter and Spring Youth Events

Check back at www.discnw.org in January for information on signing up for
the following events:

Winter MoHo and Mini MoHo, free youth practices for middle and high
schoolers, will take place on Sundays in February.

Spring Reign, a coed youth tournament for elementary through high school
teams, will take place on April 30 and May 1.

The Tacoma High School Spring League will run April 16 through May 21.



4. DiscNW Hires Betsy Brown as Operations Manager

Betsy Brown will begin in January as DiscNW's third staff person, in
the new position of Operations Manager.  Betsy will coordinate logistical
details of DiscNW youth and adult events and will work closely with
volunteers, staff, and participants.  Betsy is a member of the Ultimate
community, has a BA and a Masters in Sports Management, and comes to us with
over 11 years of experience in the recreation industry.  Be sure to say "hi"
to her out on the fields!



5.  Fryz Club Youth Team Tryouts

The Fryz is a club youth Ultimate team managed by Ultimate parent Randy
Lim.  The Fryz will be holding a 2 day tryout, Sunday, January 9th and
Saturday, January 15th, 2011.

It is mandatory to attend both days if you would like to be selected for the
Fryz 2011 roster. It is a great way to play some high level youth ultimate
and it's super fun! If you are interested in tryouts, download the waiver at
FryzUltimate.com under the 2011 Tryout Menu. Please make sure all the
contact information is legible so that we can contact you after tryouts. A
registration fee of $2.00 will be requested at check-in. Please bring light
and dark jerseys, snack and plenty of water. Hope to see you there.

6. Positive Goal Coaching Award Nominations Due Friday

The Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Award honors coaches who
have a double-goal: 1) to win, and 2) more importantly, to teach life
lessons through sports.  The recipients receive $250 in cash, a plaque, and
lots of online recognition.  To learn more and to nominate a coach, visit
