Hello, Seattle Youth Ultimate Enthusiasts!

I have 8 pieces of news for you today:

   1. Fall High School Girls' Pod/Hat League

1. FALL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' POD/HAT LEAGUE

This league welcomes all girls in grades 9-12. Girls can sign up as
individuals, in small groups ("pods"), or as a full team.  Games will take
place on Friday evenings from 7:15 to 9:15pm at Lower Woodland 02, from
September 7 through October 26.  Learn more and register at

We are also seeking a League Coordinator and coaches for this event.  If
you are interested in volunteering to support youth Ultimate this fall,
please email fall.youth.girls at discnw.org


2. FALL MIDDLE SCHOOL HAT LEAGUE

This coed league is open to 6-8th graders. The league emphasis is on fun
and on learning or teaching Ultimate.  Games will take place on Wednesday
afternoons at View Ridge Playfield, from September 12 through November 7,
3:30-5:00pm.  Learn more and register at

3. FALL SEATTLE PUBLIC MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUE

Most Seattle Public K-8 and middle schools sponsor a team in the Seattle
Public Middle School Fall Ultimate League, which plays games on Saturdays
from early September through early November.  Parents of public school
students, contact the League Coordinators at fall.ms at discnw.org to be
connected with the team at your child's school.


4.  DISCNW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FUNDINNER AUCTION - NOVEMBER 17

Save the date for the second annual DiscNW Youth Development FunDinner
Auction on November 17.  The auction will raise money for the DiscNW Youth
Development Fund, which finances activities and initiatives for youth with
barriers to accessing the sport, such as financial need, gender inequity,
and limited knowledge of the sport.

If you are interested in volunteering for auction planning or helping on
the night of the auction, email auction.dinner at discnw.org.  You can read

5. CONGRATULATIONS, SEATTLE YCC TEAMS!

Congratulations to the DiscNW teams for their strong performance at the USA
Ultimate Youth Club Championships last weekend!
U19 Girls - First Place (8th consecutive year)
U19 Mixed - Second Place (best ever DiscNW mixed finish)
U19 Open - Third Place Tie (after a 1-point loss in the semifinal to
Minnesota, who won the tournament)

An independent U16 Open team from Seattle, not associated with DiscNW -
Seattle Rebellion - also competed and won gold this weekend!

6. FOURTEEN SEATTLE YOUTH PLAY ON TEAM USA THIS WEEK

This week, seven Seattle area girls and seven Seattle area boys compete on
Team USA at the World Flying Disc Federation's World Junior Ultimate
Championships in Dublin, Ireland.  For a list of the players, see

7. USA ULTIMATE HIGH SCHOOL STATE AWARDS
USA Ultimate recently announced the Washington State High School awards for
the 2011-12 academic year.  You can view the winners here:

Congratulations to the players receiving honors!


8. NEXGEN ULTIMATE TOUR

On Wednesday, August 22, the NexGen Ultimate Tour - a band of all-star open
college players from across the country - will stop by Seattle to offer a
youth workshop and play a showcase game against our very own Seattle
Sockeye.
Workshop: 10am-1pm at Magnuson Park, boys and girls ages 13-18, $20.
Showcase Game: 7:30pm at Starfire Stadium, $8 adults, $5 students.
